Electrician: Signs of a Good One

Electrician Brisbane 24 hours replace or install power points, light switches, fans, lights, ovens, cooktops, range hoods, safety switches, smoke alarms. As you get bids for your next electrical project and interview contractors and companies you are considering for the job, how can you know which electrician is the best choice? You know that you should not make the decision based on cost alone, as you need a quality contractor when you are working with electricity. One way to narrow down your list is to look for these signs that you have found a good electrician.

First, a good contractor of any sort will have a professional business card, usually with a company name on it. The business card will also have the license number, providing that the individual is, in fact, licensed to do the work. Always ask for a card. Similarly, a qualified contractor will be willing to provide references and insurance certificates if you ask for them. However, this is a bit of a hassle, so avoid asking for these if you are hiring someone for a quick and easy task. If you are doing a large project, however, ask for these qualifications.

When you call a quality electrician, you may not get the contractor directly, as the best contractors are usually out in the field working. However, you should get a quick response to the call. If you are not called back within 24 hours, consider choosing a different individual.

Choose an individual who is able to quickly provide you with an estimate. When they come to your home to do the estimate, they should give some details about the way in which they will tackle the project. This gives you some insight into how they work and the safety measures they take.

The best electrician will never cut corners, even if you ask him to. Professionals always work to code and keep things safe. If you have a budgetary constraint, a quality contractor will find a way to rework the solution so that it comes within budget, but without cutting any safety or compliance corners. Similarly, the best individuals will insist on taking out the necessary permits to do the job within the bounds of the law.

Understanding the marks of a good electrician will be one of the most helpful tools you can have when hiring one for your next big project. Once you have worked with a qualified contractor, keep his or her contact information stored away safely, so you will always have somewhere to turn when you need electrical work done in the future.

Stress Free Family Skiing Holidays

Thanks to our early wake-up call during our ski Canada, we were at the front of the queue for the opening of the Sun Peaks lifts. There is nothing as special as a family holiday. A family holiday is an opportunity not just to have a break but also to create memories that become part of your history. As family holidays go, there are few that can offer the variety, fun and excitement of a family skiing holiday. Some people worry that skiing may be too stressful for families but this isn’t at all true. Family skiing holidays can be really joyous and stress free as long as you take one simple precaution – prepare in advance.

If you prepare properly for your skiing holiday you can have a wonderful, stress free, fun-filled time on the slopes. All the energy you put into the planning and preparation will be repaid by happy, entertained kids and relaxed, engaged adults. Doesn’t that sound like a stress-free family holiday? Let’s have a look at the main areas that need your attention before you go on holiday.

Where

OK first things first. Here are some questions you might ask yourself when planning your stress free family skiing holiday.

  • Where would we like to go?
  • How long will it take to fly there?
  • Is the transfer from the airport to the resort lengthy? A long bus journey immediately after a long flight has the potential to turn the calmest family into screaming lunatics – avoid if possible!
  • Is the resort family friendly?
  • Does it have facilities for children?

However, the number one question you need to ask in advance is this – how far do we need to walk? Even if you have to compromise on other things, find a resort where the ski lift or ski school is – for preference – within easy walking distance from your accommodation. Don’t forget you and your children will have to trudge around in heavy ski boots carrying skis and so you won’t want to go too far. At the very least make sure that the accommodation you choose has a ski bus stop close by.

What to Bring

Realise you are going on holidays with children and plan accordingly. If you, as adults, have ever lost your gloves or your goggles or even more expensive bits of equipment then you should understand why it is that the average kid will probably lose everything not tied onto him or her!

So whenever possible – bring extras.

If your little darlings turn out to be the most careful children on the planet there’ll be no harm done. You can gift wrap the extra gloves or goggles and make them as presents to the next family you know who might be planning on a skiing holiday!

On the other hand, if you don’t bring any extras and instead have to replace things at the resort where, it’s likely they’ll be charging top dollar for everything, then you might be peeved to say the least.

So, what should you bring?

Bring comfy clothes suitable for playing and, if possible, two sets of ski clothes. A lot of the time children will end up wearing their ski clothes all day and you won’t need much else – apart from pyjamas. If you don’t want to buy two sets of clothes you may be able to rent some at the resort – check it out.

Woolly Tights. Even for boys. It can be very cold on the slopes and nobody need know what’s on underneath…

Properly fitted gloves that will stay on and spare gloves for playing in the snow.

Waterproof footwear. Waterproof shoes and boots can be expensive and probably won’t fit the kids if you go skiing again next year so maybe you can find bargains on the internet? Or even borrow some just from family or friends?

Sunglasses with high UV protection for everyone – even babies.

Sunscreen. The fact that the weather is cold in the mountains doesn’t mean the sun isn’t strong – it really is very, very strong and you need to buy the highest SPF you can find – and of course then you need to use it!

Toys, games, movies, books, family games – anything you think will help you entertain yourselves in the evening during your holiday.

Choose a resort that offers appropriate level slopes for your party: there is little more intimidating for a novice skier than to be faced with red and black slopes slanting away alarmingly down the mountain! The other side of the coin is safer, but no less frustrating: for expert or advanced skiers to not be able to challenge themselves on the tougher steeper slopes. For a first time or family holiday with young or inexperienced skiers choose a resort that has easy access nursery slopes to build basic skills and confidence before trying the longer runs. Consider investing in a short course of ski lessons as learning the correct moves properly will lay down skills that will last a lifetime.

Check the amount of snowfall in the area before booking a holiday, especially if you are travelling very early or very late in the season. Some resorts suffer from periods of poor snowfall and may try to tempt the unwary by lowering prices. If a bargain looks too good to be true do a little research to find out why they might have discounted the prices quite so dramatically. Also check the safety record of any resort or ski slope that you may be considering although, in general, European ski resorts are bound by and abide by very strict safety regulations. Many European countries offer skiing holidays and you may find it surprising to discover how much choice there is when it comes to choosing a skiing holiday destination – Bulgaria and Romania have recently invested heavily in their ski resorts, hoping to carve a larger slice of the tourism pie away from the traditional giants of the skiing holiday industry. Research will be your friend here, helping to find the perfect destination in an ideal and idyllic setting.

When choosing a ski resort do some research and come up with a short list of five to seven possible resorts. Read reviews on those resorts on your shortlist and make a list of pros and cons. A review by an expert skier decrying the lack of harder and more challenging runs can safely be ignored by novice skiers – or even count as a positive from their point of view!

Once you have a comprehensive and detailed shortlist it should be a relatively simple matter to choose one of the few as the perfect ski destination for you and your party.
